Frequently asked questions
Why does the network jam at break time?
Because capacity was planned around average users. In a school the real measure is peak: the moment the bell rings, hundreds of devices try to associate at once. The fix is usually not more bandwidth but rebuilding access-point density and channel planning around that peak.
Students bypass the content filter. What can be done?
A filter alone is never enough; the bypass routes have to close too. In practice per-device policy, handling of encrypted traffic and full separation of the student network from the staff network work together. Logging matters as well — you can only close a gap you can see being used.
What should we do about student and parent records?
They are personal data, and where children are involved the expected level of care is higher. On the technical side we narrow access by role, encrypt storage, keep backups separate and log access. For the scope of the legal obligations, work with your advisor.
We rebuild the lab computers every term. Can that be shortened?
Yes. With a standard installation image, rebuilding a machine takes minutes and the whole lab ends up identical. A bulk refresh at the end of term also clears whatever students left behind.
Can you help if an interactive whiteboard drops out mid-lesson?
Classroom faults sit at the top of our priority list and most connectivity issues can be handled remotely. Lesson hours are written into the maintenance agreement as their own priority tier.
What should we do over the summer?
It is the most valuable window of the year: lab rebuilds, network and cabling renewal, server replacement, restore testing and opening accounts for the new term. Work skipped in the holidays turns into an emergency once term starts.
